An Introduction to Islamic Art and its Juxtaposition to Western Art

This talk is designed to introduce the major themes in the history of Islamic art. Islamic art has a unique and riveting history. Beginning with a brief overview of the history of Islam and its attitudes towards the visual arts–; mosque architecture, calligraphy, and ceramics with regional and political emphases. Through specific examples audiences will gain a sense of the history of traditionally art crafted in conventional Islamic lands. Next, we will delve into the similarities and differences of Islamic and Western Art.
